Mike and Kathy were married in
1973, and now live in Tukwila. Kathy works for a major airline.
Their son, Tom, was graduated
from Tukwila's Foster High School, served in the Army Reserves, and now lives
in Portland. The Hihns moved to Washington State in 1990, from their
hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. |

Community
Mike has been a Scoutmaster, a
volunteer Center Manager for Junior Achievement, and spent 8 years as coach and
officer in a large youth baseball league.
Back in Ohio, Mike was elected to a
local school board, as founder & chairman of a local parent/taxpayer
association. He now serves as an elected Commissioner for King County Water
District #125.
In 1979, Mike founded the
Cleveland-based Small Business Action Alliance -- in part to expand the health
insurance plans available through small employers.
Professional
Mike has been an independent
small-business consultant since 1975, specializing in turnarounds, marketing,
training, strategic planning, and organizational and management
development.
Prior to that, Mike was Director of
Marketing Development for the Canadian division of a major conglomerate. He
also served as training director and a sales trainer for the $100 million U.S.
parent division.
Hihn is currently an independent
political consultant. He's also the founder and director of WA Liberty Project,
a nonpartisan organization that works to elect pro-liberty candidates at the
local level. A "grassroots liberty" think tank will be formed after the 2000
election -- to achieve and secure the goals and issues of this
campaign.
Libertarian
Mike has served on the Executive
Committee of the Washington State LP, as Public Relations Chair and as
Campaigns Chair. After that, he was the first full-time, professional Executive
Director of a state Libertarian Party in the country. He now serves on the
State Central Committee, as a regional Rep from West King County.
At the national level, Mike has
served on the Platform Committee in 1998 and 2000.
From 1988 to 1995, Mike's free-lance
op-ed columns were published in newspapers around the country -- including the
healthcare columns reprinted on this site.
The op-eds were followed by
Liberty Issues, a sporadically published personal newsletter.In December
of 1996, the Liberty Issues web site received one of the very first
Editor's Choice Awards from the Advocates for Self-Government. |
